Ga. mom uses NextDoor app to find witness after fake cop follows her daughters home

The girls said the truck would turn off the light when another police car drove by, but then turned it back on when the police car was gone.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police are searching for a man who pretended to be a police officer and followed two students home on Wednesday.

According to an incident report, two sisters were driving home from Mill Creek High School and stopped at the intersection of Hog Mountain and Mineral Springs roads.

One of the girls told police that she noticed a tan Ford Truck F-150 pull up behind their car and turn on a red and blue light that was on the dashboard.

The girls said the truck would turn off the light when another police car drove by, but then turned it back on when the police car was gone.

As the girls waited at the intersection, the driver in the tan truck started to honk his horn and waved at them to pullover, according to the incident report. The girls ignored his order and continued home.

Once they parked in their driveway, the tan truck parked behind the, blocking their driveway.

The driver got out of the truck and walked up to their car, but the girls remained inside their vehicle and did not roll down their windows.

The man then made the shape of the letter “C” with his hand and told the girls he was a cop.

By this time, the girls had called their mother. They said the man grabbed at the top of his shirt and acted as though he was speaking into a radio, calling for backup. He then got back into his vehicle and left.

Police were called. While finishing up statements with the girls, their mother came out and showed the responding officer a post from the NextDoor.com app after she got an alert from the Safety and Security section from a man who stated seeing a similar tan Ford F-150 on Hog Mountain and Patrick Road, not far from where the two girls were followed.

An officer met with the man who published the post and he told police that he had seen the truck traveling in the opposite direction as him and he noticed it had red and blue lights on the dashboard, just as the two girls described before. The male witness described the truck as a 2009 to 2014 Ford F-150, possibly a King Ranch Model.

Police said there were clear aftermarket tail lights on the truck, including a third brake light, chrome gas tank cover, after market chrome tube steps (running boards).

The girls described the man as being a white male in his 20s or early 30s, fair complexion, approximately 6’0” ft. tall, heavy set build, brown shaggy hair, no facial hair, light blue eyes, wore a light blue shirt, tan shorts with a knife on his belt, had a tattoo on the inside of his upper left arm and had a southern accent.
