Houston County NAACP brings community and law enforcement together

The organization hosted their sixth annual 'Unity in the Community' fun festival Saturday

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — On Saturday, the Houston County NAACP Chapter held an event to address the disconnect between men and women in blue and those in the community.

It all came together at the sixth annual 'Unity in the Community' fun festival hosted at Deloris Toliver Park.

It's a chance for people to 'meet and greet' with law enforcement to help break down barriers between children and those in uniform, while sharing food, fun, and fellowship.

Chapter President Rutha Jackson says the event continues getting bigger and bigger every year.

"When you see me again, you'll have a more favorable attitude towards me and not a hostile one," Jackson said. "So it seems as though this activity builds up relationships, and that's what it's really all about," Jackson said.

Saturday morning they also held a 5K run and fun walk to kick off the day-long event.
