Bibb County dentist buys Halloween candy from children to send to military servicepeople

All the candy bought are boxed and shipped to military troops.

MACON, Ga. — Halloween may be over, but there's still a lot of candy around. Macon Smiles, a local dental practice, will pay up for your candy pile.

Kids are bringing in their candy, and Macon Smiles is making sure soldiers have a special treat.

The Halloween Candy Buyback is a national event. Businesses buy leftover Halloween candy from children and send them to the military.

Dr. Sheila K. Shah is a dentist at Macon Smiles on Zebulon Road. She says they have been doing their part for more than 10 years.

"We buy the candy off of children who come in. Adults are welcome to donate," Shah says, "Helping the soldiers and promoting dental health!"

So how can you sell your candy?

Just go inside, and someone will weigh your treats for $1 per pound and a goodie bag. Shah says the most they've gotten at once was 12 pounds of candy. That's $12!

Your candy is then sent to the troops by Operation Shoe Box.

"So many families are taking advantage of this and I think it's made a great impact in the community," Shah says.

If you missed it, you can head out to the dentistry during their normal business hours until November 11.
