New lane closures in effect around Spring Street and I-75/I-16 Interchange

The Georgia Department of Transportation closed lanes on Spring Street in Macon over the holiday weekend.

MACON, Ga. — New lane closures are in effect around the I-75/I-16 interchange in Macon starting this week.

Several lanes were closed in and around Spring Street over the holiday weekend. It's not uncommon to see closures while work is being done, but drivers say construction change-ups get frustrating, but in the end it'll be worthwhile.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has closed the far right lane of Spring Street leading to the westbound on-ramp to I-16.

For exit 1A, the on-ramp just past the entrance to the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail to I-16 west will also be closed.

Coming off exit 1A to Spring Street, you will notice the left turn lanes dwindled down to two instead of three, because of the street's lane closure.

Barriers sit in place, restricting left-turning drivers from taking it.

For now, drivers will have to keep an eye out for signs and messages directing traffic.

GDOT says these closures will last several months.

The closures come as crews continue to work on the I-16 eastbound bridge over the Ocmulgee River.
