Macon baseball players audition for show

Producers of the new IFC comedy "Brockmire" began filming in Macon on Wednesday and held baseball tryouts for the show.

Producers of the new IFC comedy "Brockmire" began filming in Macon on Wednesday and held baseball tryouts for the show.

Although, they were more like baseball auditions than tryouts -- instead of a coach, there was a baseball coordinator, and instead of looking for the best players, they scouted the players that could hit the ball right where they wanted it.

Mark Ellis ran the tryouts. He was hoping to find baseball talent and acting talent in Macon.

"I can't make them great ball players; they already need to be great ball players," he said.

Todd Schaffer plays baseball in Warner Robins. He said he's never been to tryouts like those on Wednesday before.

"At baseball tryouts you don't have to play stuff, you know, you just do your best, but here you have to do what they tell you to do, and it's hard, but it's fun," he said.

Ellis said he was looking for guys who could make the scenes look real, and, he said, "also do it with four cameras rolling and 500 extras watching you."
