Macon-Bibb NAACP asking for enforcement of Bibb teen curfew to curb violence

The city's current law says kids under the age of 16 must be off the streets from midnight to 5 a.m.

The Macon-Bibb chapter of the NAACP is calling for a temporary curfew for Bibb County.

According to a news release from the NAACP, the group will hold a news conference Friday asking Macon Mayor Robert Reichert to enforce the current curfew ordinance and possibly enact a temporary curfew for the entire county to curb the violence that has plagued the city recently. The city's current law says kids under the age of 16 must be off the streets from midnight to 5 a.m.

In addition to the curfew ordinance, the NAACP requests that the mayor provide the Bibb County Sheriff's Office with additional assistance, and are also calling on parents to work to keep their kids off the streets at night.

The Macon-Bibb NAACP's news conference will be held on Friday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. at the Bibb County Government Center.
