New brewery hopes to open in downtown Macon by spring

Fall Line Brewing Co. on Plum Street will feature a taproom, dining area, event space, and beer garden.

MACON, Ga. — A new brewery opening soon in downtown Macon hopes to add more than just their beer to the city.

Fall Line Brewing Co. off Plum Street is nearing the end of construction right now, but owner Kaitlynn Kressin says they started the process way back in October 2018.

Kressin and her family also own popular spots Ocmulgee Brewpub and Just Tap'd.

While Ocmulgee and Just Tap'd are focused on beer and food service, Fall Line's primary goal will be making and distributing beer.

"For us, we're going to be primarily a production facility, so we will brew beer in order to distribute it to other bars and restaurants," Kressin said.

The space will still have a taproom so you can try out the beers, and a kitchen, so you can grab a quick sandwich.

The facility also opens up into a 14,000 square-foot event space, and Kressin says it's available now to book for weddings, corporate events, parties, and other functions.

"We're super excited to show that off to everyone, it's a beautiful space, it's going to be really neat for having that asset in downtown," Kressin said.

With the large space, Kressin says they plan on making a lot of different beer. Just how much?

Well the tanks at Fall Line are four times larger than the ones you see at Ocmulgee Brewpub, Kressin says, with each holding up to 990 gallons of beer.

With numbers like that, they hope to eventually expand distribution throughout the state after they've gotten the hang of Central Georgia.

"All of the beers will be different, they'll all be branded differently, they'll look differently. One of the beers we're most excited about is just a really easy drinking lager called 'Fall Line Lager' that we will can and distribute to a lot of local bars and restaurants in the area," Kressin said.

Kressin says the name "Fall Line" is an ode to the Fall Line between the Piedmont and the Coastal Plain and really represents their ties to the area.

"We felt like it was a fitting name for what we're excited about, which is beer and adventure and supporting the Ocmulgee River, as well as ties us into our geographical location," Kressin said.

Kressin says they're very supportive of the local organizations in the area, and they want to see the city grow.

"We're excited to add another business to the mix and have it be a part of all the awesome things happening in downtown Macon," Kressin said.

She says they hope to be open by spring 2020.

"Construction always takes a little longer than you expect, but we're getting there, we're very close, and we're excited to show everyone what we've been working on," she said.
