Sunday morning’s fatal shooting in Bibb County marked a grim milestone: Bibb County’s 20th homicide of 2017 -- a number that equals the total number of homicides in the county in 2016.
According to Bibb Coroner Leon Jones, 24-year-old Emmanuel Stroud Jr. died in the hospital just before 6 a.m. Sunday after being shot while walking.
Stroud’s shooting was just one of three shootings that happened in close proximity to each other overnight that deputies say are unrelated.
But this isn’t the first tragedy the Stroud family has seen this year.
On June 18, Stroud’s father – Emmanuel Stroud Sr. – was cooking dinner when he told his mother to keep an eye on the food and he’d be right back.
He never returned.
Almost a month later, Stroud’s remains were found on Clark Street while a crew was working on power lines.
Coroner Leon Jones said Stroud was shot once in the left side.
WMAZ reached out to family about Stroud Jr.'s death Sunday. They declined to go on camera, but did say the family is not on the best of terms since Stroud Sr.'s death. They also say Stroud Jr. was a member of a gang.
