Macon Mayhem hits the ice for 4th season

The Macon Mayhem team is back for a fourth season and ready for another championship bid.

Hockey season is back in Macon! The Macon Mayhem kicked off its season at home Friday night.

The team brought a championship home just two seasons ago and they are looking to get their second in a four-year span.

With a new head coach Leo Thomas, a new general manager, and new team captains, the team is hoping for new fans in the stands for support.

"Hockey in the south, you wouldn't think it's a big deal. You have football and baseball and all that other stuff, so you wouldn't think it would succeed," says right wing and team captain Jake Trask.

Trask is one of the few players left on the roster that has been a member of the team in all four seasons.

General manager Blair Floyd was previously the assistant general manager. He knows how tough it is for a minor league sports team to stick around.

"Minor league sports franchises come and go in a lot of markets. I think there was a little bit of doubt in the first year or two, of, 'Oh, well, the Mayhem won't stay here long,' and I think we've shown that we're committed to the city and we want to be here," says Floyd.

Prior to the 2016-2017 championship season, no professional team in Macon has won the chip for the city in over 50 years.

Every home game this season will have a special promotion for fans. This weekend, the promotions magnet schedules and Pets Night.

The Mayhem starts in the Macon Centreplex this weekend against the Pensacola Ice Flyers and the Fayetteville Marksmen.
