Barney Hester leaves Tattnall for Howard

Hester spent 31 years at Tattnall winning 11 State Titles with the Trojans.

Tattnall Square Academy football, Coach Barney Hester, announced he would be stepping down as Head Football Coach to the Bibb County private school.

Hester held the position for 31 years, winning more than 300 games and 11 statetitles as a member of the GISA.

Hester will still spend his fall Friday night's opn the sidelines in Central Georgia. The Bibb County School Board voted to approve the hiring of Hester as the head Coach and Athletic Director at Howard High School Thursday night.

According to the Bibb County BOE, 23 candidates applied for the position. The candidates were screened and 8 candidates were interviewed by a panel sonsisting of Matt Adams, Principal, Howard High School; Eric Carlyle, Principal of Howard Middle School; and Eddie Ashley, System-wide Athletic Director.

Hester told 13WMAZ it was time for a changefor himself and also for the football program at Tattnall.

Hester will succeed David Cape at Howard. The Huskies finished 0-10 in each of the past two seasons.l
