Macon's Grand Opera House announces renovations

$1 million worth of SPLOST money is being spent on the project.

Evie Stancil is about to start her senior year of high school, but she has dreams of performing on Broadway. Her experience on stage started in Macon at the Grand Opera House.

“To be able to perform on a stage that has had things like tours and concerts. It’s just great to know that some of your idols have performed where you are performing,” said Stancil

The theater is about close until October to undergo a third round of renovations. Gram Slaton, executive director for the Grand Opera House says they plan to transform an old storage room into a new sitting area, add windows that will face Mulberry Street, completely change the bar area, and double the size of the current bathrooms. Stancil says the renovations are a relief.

“We usually have long bathroom lines. With them expanding the women's bathroom, it's going to make intermission a lot better,” said Stancil.

Slaton says the theatre will shut down Saturday after the Otis Music Camp Finale concert. It will open back up after renovations finish this fall.
