UPDATE | Victim identified in Monroe County fatal wreck

Traffic was shut down on Highway 42 in Monroe County Wednesday night after a fatal accident involving a fallen tree.

MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — The victim of a fatal single-car wreck in Monroe County has been identified.

A release from Public Information Coordinator Anna Lewis with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office says the victim is 22-year-old Mikayla Singletary of Forsyth.

The release says around 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, she was traveling north in a 2017 Kia Forte on Highway 42 when she left the road near mile post 19.

The car hit a tree and came to a stop in a ravine, according to the release. Then the car caught on fire.

The release says there were no other passengers, and no other cars were involved.

The accident is still under investigation. 

The wreck shut down parts of Highway 42 Wednesday night and early into Thursday morning.
