New inclusive Jones Co. park set to open

Kids with or without disabilities can enjoy the playground.

GRAY — A new park is set to open in Jones County, a park that Assistant Recreation Director Michael Woodward says is long overdue.

The park has an inclusive playground for kids with or without disabilities, and one Jones County parent says she's glad her hard work has finally paid off.

We first met Tammy Clark in 2016 when she began her journey for an inclusive park that kids with disabilities could also enjoy.

"He starts to cry, and at that moment I knew something had to be done," Clark said back in 2016.

Clark raised more than $100,000 with donations.

And with help from Jones County, The City of Gray, The Inclusive Playground Committee and nonprofits, the park was made possible, according to Jones County Commissioner Johnathan Pitts.

Now the park off Recreation Road is complete.

"I can hardly believe it, but I'm just ecstatic. I'm ready for these kids to get out and play and enjoy themselves, just forget about their challenges, even if it's only for 10 minutes," Clark said.

The park will include swings and a zip line for kids in a wheelchair, a ramp to enter the playground and even braille signs on the playground for kids with vision problems.

Woodward says Clark's hard work made the park happen for the county.

"Based upon the fire she had in her soul, and she never relinquished that fire, so it just got stronger and stronger," Woodward said.

"I wanna see them playing, I wanna see their faces light up, you do not have to live in Jones County to enjoy this park," Park said

The grand opening for the park will take place Thursday at 6 p.m.

Clark also added she will be selling bricks people can have installed along the sidewalk, so you can have a permanent memory at Jones County's first inclusive playground.
