Perry investigator: Samuel Poss killing "really weird, disturbing"

Perry police say an autopsy is scheduled for Friday, that should determine his cause of death. Dykes says right now they're searching through White and Warren's Facebook pages, electronics, phones and computers for any evidence. Claire Davis has the latest on the investigation.

A veteran Perry Police investigator calls the killing of 18-year-old Samuel Poss unlike any other case he's worked. Police found Poss's body early yesterday morning in the woods in Houston County. He had been missing since Saturday, after going to 17-year-old Dakota White's house Friday evening. White and another teenager, Brandon Warren, have been arrested and charged with murder.

The Perry Police Department says they're working overtime to learn more about the killing of 18-year-old Samuel Poss. The first homicide in the city since 2008.

Perry Police Department Veteran Investigator Captain Heath Dykes says the killing of 18-year-old Samuel Poss is different from other cases he's worked. “There's a lot of things in this case that are real weird. Not what I call per say common place, common things,” he said. “For no reason whatsoever no one deserves to be killed, murdered and dumped like that,” said Dykes.

Police found Poss's body early Thursday in the woods in Houston County, he had been missing since Saturday. White and another teenager, Brandon Warren, have been arrested and charged with murder. Dykes says the relationship between Warren and Poss is unknown. Dykes says they do know how White and Poss knew each other. “They were friends and basically their probably biggest connection was gaming on the computers. That was probably their biggest connection,” said Dykes.

Dykes confirmed that this is White's Facebook page, his name listed on the social media site is TG Rilla. On Monday, White posted our story about friends and family searching for the missing teen. “Some of the stuff you see on these Facebook posts and pages, it's very disturbing. Some of the stuff that we've learned during this investigation that was talked about prior to and after. It's that you know this young man Sam lost his life for merely nothing. I mean for no reason whatsoever,” said Dykes.

White initially told police that he picked up Poss Friday night to work on his computer, but Dykes tells us that is not true. White and Warren remain in the Houston County jail. An arrest warrant says the suspects strangled, suffocated and stabbed Poss.

A veteran Perry police investigator says the killing of 18-year-old Samuel Poss is unlike any case he's seen.

"There's a lot of really weird things in this case," said Capt. Heath Dykes. "This case is disturbing. I don't know why anybody would do this to someone."

Two other Houston County teens, Dakota White and Brandon Warren are charged with murder. They're accused of killing Poss sometime late Friday, Oct. 14 or early Saturday Oct. 15. Then they allegedly dumped his body in woods near Warren's home.

Dakota White, 17, (left) and Brandon Warren, 18, (right) are both charged with murder in the death of Sam Poss, 18.

An arrest warrant says the suspects strangled, suffocated and stabbed Poss.

Friday morning, Dykes also discussed more details of the case:

  • He said investigators focused on White as a suspect as his story changed. White initially told police that he picked up Poss Friday night to work on White's computer. But Dykes said that was not true.
  • Poss's body was partially decomposed after several days in the woods.
  • White and Poss were friends, who often played computer games together, said Dykes. Poss and Warren's connection is unknown, he said.
  • He said investigators are still pulling together details of the case. He said they're looking through the three teen's social media, their phones, computers and PlayStations.

Poss's autopsy is being conducted Friday.
