Perry Air flight school under new ownership

New owners Alex and Ashley Zoltak say they want to make learning to fly easier for the working man.

PERRY, Ga. — A Warner Robins couple just became the the proud new owners of a flight school in Perry. They want to make the freedom of flight more accessible to Central Georgians.

Alex and Ashley Zoltak bought the flight school on May 15th and said they've already begun making changes, including buying new planes, giving their shop a new coat of paint, and making space for instructors.

"We're updating a lot of our areas for students and our pilots to come in work, study, ask questions," Ashley Zoltak said.

Alex Zoltak got his own pilot licenses in 2014 training at Perry Air under then-owner Dale Snyder. He said Snyder had a passion for flying that Zoltak shared. He said there's no match for the feeling of flying.

"There's no freedom like it. It's the ultimate freedom," Zoltak said.

The couple said previously Perry Air operated as more of a private part 61 flight school, but they want to make it a more public and accessible business for those who want to learn how to fly.

It will cater primarily to working class and business professionals who don't have hours to commit to a classroom setting found in a part 141 class.

"For business professionals and people who want to learn to fly, it's hard to go to a school -- like Middle Georgia is a great school, but it's a classroom atmosphere. It's a lot different, and here, we offer the professionals the ability to come in and learn at their own pace," Alex Zoltak said.

Flight instructor Joseph Ward has been flying since 2012. He said watching a student become a master is a feeling like no other.

"It's just a rewarding experience to see somebody go from not knowing how to fly at all to going in the airplane by themselves and taking off," Ward said.

Perry Air has 6 instructors and 9 planes. They hope to add 2 more by the end of the year. The flight school is also available for plane rentals at an hourly rate. The Zoltaks say they are open for both training and rentals now, but will hold a grand opening some time in June or July. You can visit their site for a reservation at www.perryairflight.com.
