Perry complex to stay open, make repairs

ID=6186075The countdown begins as Crossroads Apartment management works to repair the Perry complex in the next 60 days or run the risk of having to kick tenants out.

Friday, Houston County Superior Court Judge Edward Lukemire issued another injunction.

That allows Crossroads to remain open and the City of Perry to conduct its inspection without evacuating tenants.

The first injunction came Monday afternoon.

It allowed Crossroads to stay open throughout the week.

"I stayed the whole time. Everybody that was here today stayed the whole time," said Edna Rich, a tenant at the complex.

Rich was one of several tenants who stayed at Crossroads even after the city condemned it last Friday and says she's confident Property Manager Mark Green can make the repairs in time now that he'll have a full list from the City.

"He'll comply with it. He'll have it done. He'll get it all done," Rich said.

Green's just grateful to have 60 days instead of 2 hours to fix Crossroads.

That's all he had Friday when the City of Perry condemned the complex and ordered tenants to be out two hours later.

He says it's now about fixing the remaining problems the city found.

"Some of the other pictures that were shown, those things were actually fixed out there on the property prior to today. They showed 24 pictures. We fixed 24 items," Green said.

But City Attorney David Walker who argued electrical issues put tenants in "imminent danger" says a lot of work still has to be done.

"Based on the pictures I think It'd be very difficult to bring it up to code in the next 60 days," Walker said.

Despite living in a complex the city has deemed dangerous, rich says she's grateful for the judge who's ruling keeps a roof over her head at least for the next two months.

"Thank you," Rich said. "We appreciate it and we think you did a fair thing."
