Pilot organizes hurricane donation drive in Cochran

About 100 pilots will fly into Cochran Airport to deliver supplies after Hurricane Florence through a group called the Cajun Airlift Mississippi Missions Group.

Mikki Kline just got her pilot's license a few years ago, but now she says she's ready to jump into action. She has organized about 100 pilots who will fly into Cochran Airport to deliver supplies after Hurricane Florence through a group called the Cajun Airlift Mississippi Missions Group.

“Where this grassroots pilots organization fits in is it gives us any opportunity to get out and fly our planes and help others,” said Kline.

Kline is asking for things like insect repellent, diapers, wipes, feminine hygiene products, pacifiers, first aid kits, toiletries, insect repellent, packs of new socks, fans, and battery packs.

Other pilots across the country are receiving those items and flying into Cochran before flying to the Carolinas.

“The community here has been very generous, and from what I’ve heard from Alabama, Mississippi and stuff, it sounds like they’re getting a lot of stuff there, too,” said Kline.

Kline says her primary motivation is the thought that Florence could have left impacts right here in Central Georgia.

“You know anytime something is hurting or something, that could easily be me. I never know when I might need help,” said Kline.

With her husband deployed and raising her son, Hudson, she knows about sometimes needing help.

If you’d like to drop off a donation off any of the items on the list, you can drop them off at the Cochran Airport during their normal business hours 9 a.m .- 5 p.m. or at the First Baptist Church in Cochran.
