What initially came in as a call of a drive-by shooting in Cochran Thursday turned out to be nothing more than an accident.

According to Inv. Jeff Simpson, it happened around 12:30 p.m. on Rick Hill Road.

The victim, 24-year-old Charvon Bailey, told deputies he was out walking his dog when someone drove by and shot him.

Simpson later met Bailey for questioning at Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville.

During questioning, Bailey admitted there was no drive-by shooter, and he accidentally shot himself in the leg when a small caliber handgun in his pocket discharged.

Simpson says the shooting is still under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
