A 58-year-old man died Monday after being hit by a car and thrown from the bicycle he was riding.

According to a release from Georgia State Patrol, it happened on the Fall Line Freeway around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

They say the Washington County Sheriff’s Office took a 911 call of a crash involving a car and bike.

An initial investigation shows Theodore Yarboro was headed east on the highway in a Nissan Xterra while the bicyclist was traveling east in the rightmost lane near the fog line.

GSP says the front passenger side of the Xterra hit the back of the bike and the bicyclist, 58-year-old David Cummings, was ejected.

Cummings was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

GSP is planning an accident reconstruction and charges are pending.
