'Top Teacher' reunites with student who nominated her

Tina Hester was nominated by a former student 8 years ago, and the two happened to reunite at a restaurant in Dublin

Each week on 13WMAZ during the school year, we do our "My Teacher is Tops" segment, where our Junior Journalists surprise a teacher who was nominated by one of their students.

Although the graduations are over and summer break is in full swing, as we learned from a message to our 13WMAZ Facebook page, the impact of a nomination can last much longer than the initial surprise and plaque presentation.

Tina Hester sent us a photo with her former student Zhasharee Rogers.

Rogers nominated Hester for the honor about eight years ago, when she was an 8th grade student at East Laurens Middle School.

She went on to graduate from Treutlen County High School, and Hester says they kept up with each other on Facebook over the years.

Recently, Hester and her husband went out to dinner in Dublin, where Rogers was the hostess!

It was the first time they had seen each other in person in years.

Rogers told Hester had always been one of her favorite teachers. Hester wrote in her message to us: "She was an awesome student then, and continues to be!"

Rogers will be graduating from Georgia Southern University with a major in Health Informatics.
