Tribute run for fallen service members passes through Macon

Run for the Fallen passed through Macon on Riverside Drive Friday morning

This report has been contributed by 13WMAZ's news intern, Sarah Hammond.

A team of runners passed through Macon on their 6,000-mile journey to Arlington, Virginia, Friday morning.

Run for the Fallen is a race dedicated to fallen service members.

The runners began in Fort Irwin, California and will run a “tribute trail” to Arlington National Cemetery.

They started running in April and will reach their destination on August 5.

Each mile is dedicated to one of the 19,000 fallen service men and women since the USS Cole in October 2000.

At each “hero marker,” the runners will stop, come to attention and read the rank, name and branch of service, as well as the date of death of each hero.

The Run for the Fallen runners travel for 50 miles every day and will pass through a total of 19 states by the end of their run.
