West Seattle store closing up shop after 50 years

A beloved West Seattle shop prepares to close its doors this fall.
Gregor Terjung prepares to close down his shop after 50 years.

Little has changed at Terjung's Studio of Gifts since it opened 50 years ago, but a big change is looming for the family-owned business: retirement.

"It's been a good 50 years," said Gregor Terjung.

Terjung, 88, is the store's owner and works at the store seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"I love what I do, I love our customers," he said.

Terjung said that his age and the fact that business has gotten slower over the years was behind making the decision to close up shop.

Terjung's daughter, Gail Spores, said this is a tough choice because that means not seeing their regular costumers.

"I think that's the hard thing," she said. "We'll see people again, but it's hard."

Gregor said he's going to take the new spare time for himself to work in his woodshop.

Terjung's Studio of Gifts is hosting a sale right now to try and clear out their inventory before its lease is up at the end of October.
