Republican Rick Williams has won the Ga. District 145 race. He has defeated Democrat Floyd Griffin.

Both men are Milledgeville funeral directors. Williams garnered 52 percent of the vote to Griffin's 48 percent.

Griffin is a former state senator and former Milledgeville mayor.

"We're gonna make things happen for Baldwin and Putnam County," Rick Williams said. "And I thank God for the opportunity and thank you the voters of Baldwin and Putnam County."

Williams says he wants to bring unity to the community.

"We're going to sit down and we're gonna come up with a game plan and we're going to Atlanta with a unified front," Williams said. "We're going to start working to try to bring industry and attention to Middle Georgia."

As for Williams opponent Floyd Griffin, he says despite losing, he's doing ok.

"I feel good," Griffin said.

But he says feels he's more qualified for the state representative seat, than Williams.

"We ran a very strong race against a person who is not well-qualified to be a state representative and he was put in by the elite in this county," Griffin said.

And Griffin who also ran unsuccessfully for Milledgeville mayor last year, now says he's going to take some time for himself.

"They felt that I was not the person to represent them for either one of those positions so I'm gonna move on and enjoy my life out of politics," Griffin said.

But Williams is ready to get to work.

"This is going to be a fresh start," Williams said.

District 145 covers Baldwin and Putnam counties.
