Reward offered in arson fire at Habersham hardware store

Investigator ruled the fire arson and estimated damages from the flames at about $1,000.

HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — A Tuesday fire inside a Habersham County hardware store was intentionally set, officials say.

According to the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens, employees at Habersham Hardware & Home Center off Hwy-115 in Clarkesville noticed smoke coming from inside the bathroom around 4:45 p.m and called 911.

An investigator in Hudgens’ Fire Unit ruled the fire arson and estimated damages from the flames at about $1,000.

Hudgens is now asking anyone with information about this fire to call the Georgia Arson Hotline at 1-800-282-5804. Rewards of up to $10,000 are given for information leading to the arrest and conviction of an arsonist.
