The Mercer Bears climbed back from a 14 point deficit and used an Amoria Neal Taylor 3 with 25 seconds left to get within 2, but they could not complete the comeback against Columbia losing 72-68.
Mercer and Columbia kept battling in the first and 2nd quarter with Columbia taking a 34-32 lead at the break. But the Bears shot the ball poorly in the 3rd quarter shooting 27.8% in the frame. It was an uphill battle entering the fourth quarter, and the margin was just still wide even though the Bears got within 2.
Mercer's Amanda Thompson recorded her 5th straight double-double posting 18 points, and 11 rebounds. The Bears drop to 8-7 overall and will now start up Southern Conference play on Saturday at Hawkins Arena at 2 pm.
