Frankly Speaking: Baby Braves thriving

The Baby Braves are blossoming ahead of schedule.

This is a column of opinion and analysis by 13WMAZ’s veteran news and sports anchor, Frank Malloy.

If I'm dreaming please don't wake me up - It's June 18 and the Braves are in First Place - by three plus games.

And I don't think it's a fluke.

Brian Snitker's baby Bunch is 42 and 29 - Tied with the Brewers for the best record in the National League.

Braves - Brewers - best record - maybe I am dreaming.

Three Players - Freddy Freeman, Ozzie Albies and Nick Markaikas are currently in line to start in the All-Star Game.

Young pitchers like Sean Newcomb and Mike Foltynewicz are excelling under pressure.

And the team has hit four walk-off home runs including two by Georgia native Charlie Culberson.

The fans are starting to take notice again - the team sold out their last three home games - against the Padres no less - and over 210 thousand people showed up during the most recent six game homestand at Suntrust Park.

That's fine - this team should be supported and appreciated for getting this good this soon without being burdened by some folks expectations of immediate greatness and hoisting of the World Series trophy in late October.

Just enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts this season and realize even better things lie ahead down the road.

And that's this week's Frankly Speaking.
