Warner Robins not underestimating Bainbridge for state championship

The Demons will play against region foe Bainbridge in the state championship at Mercedes Benz Stadium next Tuesday and while they have already beaten the Bearcats this year, the Demons know they can't take Bainbridge lightly, not when a state championship is at stake.

Warner Robins is coming off an emotional win in the GHSA Final Four.

"I mean, that game meant a whole lot to us -- obviously, there was a lot of feelings there," senior QB Dylan Fromm said.

The entire team felt it in the revenge game where they beat Rome, the team that knocked them out of the championship last year.

"That was on our mind the whole time -- we were just like, 'We know what we got ahead of us.' Rome is a good team and it just meant a lot for everybody, especially the seniors," junior linebacker Malachi Weatherspoon said.

The Demons redeemed themselves last week in the semifinals with a convincing 45-28 victory to eliminate the Wolves and move on to the state title in back-to-back seasons. But they know Rome wasn't the season, there is still work they need to complete.

"You know, we know that there is still another game that we have to play and everybody has got to do their job and we gotta win it, " Fromm said.

And coach Mike Chastain is also stressing the importance of the final game.

"Man, it's just an awesome feeling. Our guys are super-pumped and the thing that we talked about a little bit today was just being focused and just being able to grind for one more week and taking it one day at a time and being able to get all of our talents out on to the field, " Chastain said.

Standing in the way of Warner Robins' 5th football state championship is Bainbridge, a team they shutout in region play earlier this year, but the Demons know this matchup won't be anything like the regular season.

"They are a different team we played before. They are playing really good ball right now, athletic enough to play with us. We just gotta go out and play our best game," Chastain said.

In fact, this game will be much harder than the first one.

"It is hard to beat your opponent two times in a year, so like, just make sure we don't underestimate them and play our game, " Malachi Weatherspoon said.

The Demons aren't taking this opportunity for granted and want to make sure that 2nd time is the charm, because for the seniors, that's all they have left.

"There are guys that coach forever -- I've been coaching my whole career and never got a chance to play in game 14, and we have had a chance to play in game 15 two years in a row, and this year, we gotta just go finish the business and finish the job and just be ready." Chastain said.

And the Demons are hoping to leave everything on the field and truly redeem themselves from falling short a season ago.

"It would mean everything. Falling just one game short last year, it hurt everybody on the team, so getting it this year will be incredible. You know, we are hoping everyone from middle Georgia this week will win it," Fromm said. "So it'll be awesome".
