After an active weekend across Central Georgia, our strong to severe storm risk will continue into Monday afternoon and evening.
The SPC has included most of Central Georgia in the level 1 of 5 risk for today, with areas to the north of Macon in the level 2 risk for severe storms.
As we saw over the weekend, storms today may be capable of wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to about quarter size.
The window for strong to severe storms today will open up at about 4 p.m. this afternoon. Storm activity will likely begin first for western portions of our area, and expand to the east heading into the evening hours.
New model runs are now suggesting that even to 5 p.m. we are mostly dry, but still we can't rule out any storm development during the mid-afternoon.
The hi-res models have not been handling the forecast well in recent days, so do not interpret model images as an exact picture of what the radar will look like today.
The most widespread coverage of storms will likely occur during the late afternoon and early evening hours. Generally speaking it looks like the most widespread coverage of storms will be between about 6 and 10 p.m. based on the latest model runs.
By the 11 p.m. or so we should be able to taper the storm chance, and overnight a few lingering showers are possible, but generally speaking we trend drier by Tuesday morning.
Aside from the strong storm threat, Monday will be quite hot and humid. Afternoon highs will reach the mid 90s for most areas, and 'feels like' temperatures could hit 100 degrees.
THE REST OF THE WEEK:
Tuesday and the middle of the week stay hot, but we'll drop the rain chance down to about 20%. This should give us a much needed break from the severe storm threat.
