Strong storms ongoing across Central Georgia this evening will slowly taper off as we move into the late evening and overnight hours. Through this evening, an isolated storm may briefly turn severe with 60MPH wind gusts being the main risk.

Our old friend the "wedge" will build in as we head into Sunday. High pressure to our northeast is driving in the wedge front, and this will set us up for a cooler day on Sunday. Highs will only reach the low to mid 80s!

The wedge will also bring in a more stable airmass which will lower rain and storm chances on Sunday. A few showers and an isolated storm are possible, but anything that does develop should not be intense. The heaviest activity will stay to our south and west, outside of the wedge.

We'll get back to our usual summertime routine by Tuesday of next week.

The tropics are coming to life as we near the peak of hurricane season. Close to home, the National Hurricane Center continues to monitor a tropical disturbance near the Bahamas. The NHC is giving this area a 90% chance of developing within 5 days. A Hurricane Hunter airplane will investigate the system tomorrow to see if a tropical storm or depression has developed. Direct impacts from this system are unlikely in Central Georgia as it will be moving out to sea.

Further out in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Dorian has developed and is moving west.

The Hurricane Center expects Tropical Storm Dorian to intensify into a hurricane within the next 5 days as it enters the Caribbean sea. Impacts beyond then are still uncertain. It will be a good idea to keep an eye on this forecast as we go into next week.
