The latest updates show Hurricane Dorian possibly taking a more northern direction, likely hitting Florida and possibly impacting southeastern Georgia.
As the Category 1 hurricane, currently sitting above the Caribbean north of Puerto Rico, moves northwest, here's how Georgia's coastal and other southeastern counties are communicating to residents:
- Camden County: The county's EMA has posted on Twitter that "residents should prepare now for tropical activity and rapidly changing conditions." The county also put out a notice warning residents to monitor Dorian and has regularly shared National Hurricane Center updates.
- Glynn County: The county's EMA posted the latest National Hurricane Center update on Facebook on Wednesday night, saying: "We still fall in the cone of uncertainty, which means we stay the course, continue to closely monitor and prepare, and we will see what tomorrow brings. Sleep well."
- McIntosh County: The county EMA posted to Facebook on Wednesday morning, telling residents "it is still too early to lock down a direct track whether it comes up the coast or back down into FL" and "please stay tuned to the weather and we will try to update as we get more information."
- Liberty County: The county government posted on Facebook on Wednesday saying "we encourage everyone to stay posted for regular updates and take this time to prepare for possible impacts in Liberty County." The Liberty County Sheriff's Office Facebook is also sharing National Hurricane Center updates.
- Bryan County: The county's emergency services agency has encouraged residents to register to receive phone calls and text alerts, and they maintain a hurricane registry for those with functional, access, or medical needs. The county EMS Facebook has told residents to "take the time now to get ready for whatever Dorian may bring" and that it is monitoring the storm
- Chatham County: The Chatham County EMA Twitter shared a National Hurricane Center update on Wednesday and noted that the cone was shifting to the south of the county, which includes Savannah. "Impacts, however, are still possible here," it warned.
- Charlton County: Appears to have an inactive EMA Facebook page and sheriff's office page. The county does not appear to have a Twitter presence, either.
- Brantley County: The county's EMA Facebook page urged caution on Wednesday, telling residents to "prepare yourselves, but don't go crazy buying up all the bread and water or leaving town just yet" and "please don't share false information." "We are still 5 days away from landfall, a lot can change, be informed, have a plan, and prepare to act if needed," the service wrote.
- Wayne County: The Wayne County Sheriff's Office Facebook has regularly shared National Hurricane Center updates. The Wayne County Public Safety page is also sharing updates and says it is "constantly monitoring" the storm.
- Long County: The county's emergency management agency wrote on Facebook on Wednesday that it "spoke to some local pastors and they will be willing to shelter as needed." It promised to publish specific information on that by Friday.
- Effingham County: The county does not appear to have an emergency services presence on social media. The sheriff's office has not posted anything on Facebook, and its Twitter appears inactive.
Other counties farther from the coast, including Burke, Bulloch and Screven Counties, have shared various updates.
Hurricane Dorian is expected to make landfall sometime over the Labor Day weekend.
