MACON, Ga. — Tropical Storm Nicole continues to strengthen in the Atlantic Ocean. Nicole now has sustained winds of 65 mph and is forecast to become a Category 1 hurricane before landfall.
Hurricane warnings are in effect for parts of Florida with tropical storm watches stretching into Savannah and extreme southeastern Georgia. Tropical storm watches are slowly starting to spread more west toward Central Georgia.

The cone slices straight through Central Georgia, with rain and windy conditions rolling in as early as Thursday.
Our largest impact will definitely be heavy rain. The heavy rain bands will move Thursday night into Friday morning. We could see two to three inches area-wide, with localized larger amounts possible.
We can't rule out the chance for severe weather though, with gusty winds near tropical storm force and possibly a weak tornado or two.

Thanks to a cold front sweeping through the Southeast for the weekend, Nicole will be steered out to sea before Saturday.
