TRACKING DORIAN | Dorian continues to pound the Carolinas

Hurricane Warnings have been issued from South Carolina through the Outer Banks.

Dorian has weakened slightly this evening but is still a dangerous category 2 hurricane. With the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center, maximum sustained winds are 100 mph as the storm moves NE at 10 mph.

The center of the storm is just off the North Carolina coastline. Even with the center of circulation just off shore, hurricane force gusts, storm surge, heavy rain, and a few tornadoes are being felt across North Carolina.

Hurricane Warnings have been posted from north of Savannah through the Outer banks where hurricane force wind gusts, several feet of storm surge, and localized areas of 10+ inches of rainfall will be possible.

Coastal Georgia Impacts:

Conditions are improving along the Georgia coastline. Rain is tapering off and wind is starting to die down. Any storm surge that did manage to move in is also subsiding.

Central Georgia continues to feel the breeze on the outer flanks of Dorian this evening, and we'll stay breezy overnight. Fortunately, we were able to miss the worst of this storm and we can say goodbye to this one soon.

Dorian Approaches the Carolina Coastline:

Meanwhile, the weather will remain problematic Thursday night and Friday morning for the North Carolina coastline as the storm tracks to the northeast.

For North Carolina, the center of Dorian will be very close to shore as the storm maintains category 2 strength. This means that areas from Wilmington to the Outer Banks could experience sustained winds over 75 mph, and gusts over 100 mph.

The exact magnitude of the wind will depend on how close the center of Dorian gets to the shoreline.

By Friday evening Dorian will be moving out to sea over the open Atlantic, and conditions will improve over the weekend for entire southeast coast.
