Hurricane Florence has caused millions of evacuation orders for residents along both Carolinas coasts. On Wednesday, an older couple was moved from a coastal nursing home and a powerful photo was taken of the moment.
A darkened photo shows the backs of two hospital beds in what appears to be an ambulance. Across the two beds, the couple holds each other's hand.
The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control would not confirm any more information about the photo to WFMY News 2, citing HIPAA regulations. Those regulations protect the medical information of all Americans.
WFMY News 2 is completely fine respecting the privacy of this incredible couple.
As Florence makes it move inward, our country's most vulnerable - the older and the sick - are being evacuated to safety. Many have been taken all the way to the Piedmont Triad - with around 200 staying at the Sheraton at the Four Seasons.
Thank you to the first responders who have worked tirelessly to get our loved ones to safety and out of Florence's way. According to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, 1,700 people have been evacuated from health care facilities along the South Carolina coast.
