National Weather Service: EF-1 tornado hit south Laurens County

Crews were on their way back from a conference in Savannah when the system went through.

DUBLIN, Ga. — National Weather Service survey crews are out at the scene of an EF-1 tornado that hit southern Laurens County on Friday morning.

They said the area that sustained the most damage was around Highway 46/Sudie Pearl Jones Road.

The crew was able to get the scene as quickly as they did because they were on their way back from a conference in Savannah when the storm system passed through.

An EF-1 tornado has winds that range between 86-110 mph, according to the Enhanced Fujita scale.

Laurens County EMA Director said other parts of the county had some downed trees and power lines, but otherwise no significant damage.
