Macon Co. EMA monitoring Flint River levels ahead of rain

The NWS says the Flint River could reach a minor flood level due to tomorrow's rain

With more rain headed our way, crews are closely monitoring the levels of the Flint River.

Macon County EMA Director James Conner says the river levels have been fluctuating all week, and he expects them to keep rising with the rain in the forecast.

Conner says one of the boat landings on the river has been underwater since Thursday, and large branches and debris are beginning to wash up on shore.

Even though you may be tempted to enter the river, Conner says for your own safety, you should stay out because the current is picking up.

“That’s the direct channel, as you can see, under the [Highway] 49 bridge. That’s where the swiftest current is and that light pole on the boat ramp is where everybody unloads their boat to go fishing,” said Conner.

The National Weather Service is predicting the Flint River could reach a minor flood stage on Monday.
