Professional disc golf tournament coming to Sandersville

Start practicing your aim -- a professional disc golf tournament is coming to Sandersville this weekend.

Washington County opened Depot Disc Golf about a year ago, and this will be their first PDGA event. That's the Professional Disc Golf Association.

The course can hold up to 72 players at a time. Organizers hope to get a good mix of pros and amateurs to participate. The community is invited to join in on the fun or cheer on the competitors.

The top disc golfer will walk away with close to $1,000 in prize money. The county anticipates plenty of athletes vying for top honors.

"You got professional players that make a living of it, just like any pro sport," says Jamie Brindell who manages the course for the Washington County Recreation Department. "This is what pays their bills. They have sponsors, so it could be compared to regular golf."

It's all happening at Depot Disc Golf inside Sandersville's Linton Park, that's across from Brentwood School.

Registration opens at 8 a.m. Saturday. It's $50 for amateurs and $75 for professionals.

The action gets going at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Stick around Saturday evening for a concert on the square outside the Washington County Courthouse, that starts at 6 p.m.
