Third grade teacher at ACE Academy invites entire class to wedding

Ms. Rebecca Barber is getting married this weekend, but not without some very special guests

One teacher at ACE Academy in Macon is working on more than lesson plans – she’s working on her own wedding plans too.

Those weddings plans also include a very special guest list.

Invitations went out to Rebecca Barber’s entire third grade class at ACE, which includes Lillian Stanley.

Stanley says the invitations came as a surprise in class one day.

“On her board she wrote ‘Ms. Barber turning Mrs. Turner’ and everyone started jumping up and down,” said Stanley.

The excitement is still evident in the classroom, just ask the students.

“I was really happy because she’s a really sweet teacher,” said Bella Lopera.

“I felt happy because my teacher was happy and it’ll be my first wedding,” said Ethan Snow.

“It was really nice of her to let us come,” said Abbey Collins.

It’s Barber’s first year teaching and she says her day wouldn’t be complete without her kids.

“These are my people,” said Barber with a smile. “I spend every single Monday through Friday with them. They are the best people I know and I couldn’t imagine my special day without it.”

She says almost all 20 of her students will be there, and not only will they watch, they’ll also get a chance to be a part of the action.

“They’re actually going to come down the aisle before I do. The girls are going to be wearing white dresses and the boys are going to be wearing khaki pants and an Oxford. They’re going to be holding a garland,” said Barber.

“I know that it’s a special moment to share with us and I’m happy she gets to spend the rest of her life with a handsome man,” said student Jessyca Cohen.

Congratulations to Ms. Barber and her fiancé!
