A Twiggs County man is behind bars Wednesday after being charged with two counts of animal cruelty.

Robert Allen Barfield was arrested by the Twiggs County Sheriffs Office Wednesday after officers visited his property at 1166 Big Oak Road.

Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare assisted in the investigation.

"Twiggs County is not equipped to deal with animal control side of law enforcement, we actually come out and help Twiggs County for cases like this where theres neglect or cruelty," Vinson said.

Two horses on his property were not an appropriate size, and that's what lead to the charges according to Macon-Bibb Animal Enforcement officer Jason Vinson.

"The stud horse, the colt, that was here on the property, which was her colt...he was about a two on that scale and he was nearly skin and bones," said Vinson.

Barfield also surrendered two pigs, three chickens and a miniature pony.

According to the Twiggs County Jail website, Barfield was released on a $2,000 bond.
