Athlete of the Week: Guy Anderberg

Senior short stop Guy Anderberg is one of five seniors on the West Laurens Raiders team and led them in more ways than one. He has a 3.83 GPA and is our Athlete of the week.

Guy Anderberg has been a reliable shortstop for West Laurens the past four years, but now as a senior, his game has changed.

"My glove has always been my strong suit, but coming in my senior year, the bat got hot, been hitting the ball pretty well, and that has been nice," Anderberg said.

But he didn't just help the Raiders with his bat or glove, he stepped up to be one of the leaders on a team that had just five seniors.

"His work ethic on the field, he leads by example. He is a vocal guy, too -- he is not afraid to, if the guys are not doing what they are supposed to, he is not afraid to get them back in line a positive way," head coach Brian Brown said.

And one of the positive way he leads is in the classroom, boasting a 3.83 GPA.

"I know that baseball only lasts so long, you gotta have a future ahead of you," Anderberg said.

And his future is looking bright, as he will attend Georgia Southwestern State University and play baseball.

"You know, the next chapter in his life is laid out for him. He is going to be deeply missed, but the impact that he has left on our program has been fantastic," Brown said.

He set the standard during his time at West Laurens, and his coach believes the trend will continue on any diamond he will play on.

"Anything that he is associated with, he works hard, he has been very successful at it. Whether it's in the classroom, whether it's relationship with others, obviously on the field," Brown said. "Guy just leads by example, I am just so thankful for him for the man he has grown up to be, and I love him dearly."
