Athlete of the Week: Luke Laskey

Luke Laskey is a senior pitcher for the Tattnall Trojans and has a 3.4 GPA, making him our Athlete of the Week.

Luke Laskey is a reliable arm for the Tattnall Trojans.

“Um best pitch, I’d have to say either the curve ball or the fastball as long as I mix it well. I throw from two different slots so that tricks them up a lot," senior Luke Laskey said.

And Laskey is creative on the hill.

“He’s really just a craft guy, he throws from different slots," head baseball coach Joey Hiller said. "And he changes speeds and makes it move and throws hard when he needs to throw hard."

And it’s that combination which makes it so difficult for batters to make contact against him.. The senior has been a constant contributor for the Trojans and has always wanted to put his best foot forward.

“Just his competitive nature, the fact that he wants to win and wants to do well and help his program and his school and compete out there for his teammates that number one," Hiller said.

But Luke isn’t just concerned with winning on the mound, he has also prioritized his academics and is dominating there too with a 3.4 GPA

“I think everyone has to look for everyone academically and athletically, so if we can keep everyone straight in the classroom we can keep them straight on the field," Laskey said.

And he is also one of the stronger competitors on the team.

“I think with any competitor they want to do as well as they can doing life, in classroom, boyfriend, or son," Laskey said. "it doesn’t surprise me that he is a good teammate, or a baseball player all at the same time."

And it’s that competitive nature that has helped him develop not only in the starting role, but as one of the leaders.

“That’s what we want, the younger guys step up and mature and provide the leadership to keep moving it forward," Hiller said.
