78-year-old man who died in early morning house fire near Broadway has been identified

Leon Jones said the call came in just before 7:45 a.m.

MACON, Ga. — A man is dead after a house fire near Broadway in Macon, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

Jones said the call came in just before 7:45 a.m. after a fire broke out at a home at 365 Reid Street. 

The victim is 78-year-old Joseph May. The fire department said he was trying to get out of the home but was unable to. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined but there was heavy damage to the home.
