'It's high-traffic': Warner Robins mayor and council discuss public safety projects, city finances

Possible projects include a sidewalk on Lake Joy Road and a roundabout at Moody Road and Pleasant Hill Road in Warner Robins.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — On Monday night, the Warner Robins mayor and city council met to talk about topics that included possible public safety projects and the city's finances.

Councilman Daron Lee talked about adding a roundabout to Moody Road and Pleasant Hill Road.

"It's high-traffic, especially when school lets out, as well as on base," said Lee.

Councilman Clifford Holmes proposed adding a sidewalk to Lake Joy Road to make the area safer for students.

Mayor Randy Toms says the project would require a partnership between the city and the county because the entire road does not fall in the city limits.

"And then we do have some sidewalks out there, but not all sidewalks. Some  [are] on one side, so, you know, it's a little bit convoluted in that area," said Toms.

Councilman Larry Curtis talked about forming a larger finance committee to see if the city needs to take a closer look at spending and if they should do a forensic audit.

"Where are we going to actually start?" asked Curtis.

Mayor Toms says he does believe the finance staff is overwhelmed and says he thinks they can hire more manpower to help.

"And then see where that leads, if that leads to something else. Mr. Curtis, I, personally, don't believe all the talk about, 'We better do a forensic audit here because there is so much bad.' I don't believe that," said Toms.

Mayor Randy Toms says he appointed councilman Clifford Holmes as the chair of the finance committee at the last council meeting. Kevin Lashley and Charlie Bibb are also on the finance committee.
