UPDATE | Eastman man identified as victim in second fatal downtown Macon shooting

Investigators say he was in an argument at Grant's Lounge earlier in the night

UPDATE: Bibb Coroner Leon Jones has identified the victim in the fatal overnight shooting as 28-year-old Quinton Tylor Benyard, of Eastman.

He says this is Macon-Bibb County's 39th homicide of the year.

A man is dead after the 2nd fatal shooting in downtown Macon in a week.

A Bibb deputy was on patrol around 1 a.m. when he discovered a man had been shot and was lying at the corner of Poplar Street and Third Street.

He was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health before he was pronounced dead in the operating room.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says that happened around 3:30 a.m.

Authorities have not identified the victim yet.

Here's what we know from investigators. 

They say they found that the victim was in a fight earlier in the night at Grant's Lounge, a local music club on Poplar Street. 

Investigators are interviewing witnesses to determine more details.

Deputies are looking for a gold or tan colored GMC Yukon or Tahoe that was seen in the area.

Before Sunday, December 16, there had not been a deadly shooting in downtown Macon's business district since 2016. Now there have been two in 5 days.
