'It's made with love': The Swanson serves up quality southern cuisine in Perry

For over 21 years, the Swanson has served up staples like crispy fried chicken, deviled eggs, mashed potatoes and gravy, fried okra and so much more.

PERRY, Ga. — If you're in the mood for some mouth-watering southern cookin' there's one place in Perry that is sure to satisfy your cravings.

The Swanson sits on the corner of Carroll Street in downtown Perry and is the place to go for southern dining.

Their menu features soul food staples like house-made fried chicken that is crispy and flavorful, deviled eggs, mashed potatoes with gravy, fried okra, meatloaf and more.

A lot of their food is made in-house, including their homemade candied pickles and fluffy bread pudding with a homemade caramel sauce.

General Manager Mary McGuire says that they pride themselves on quality food, and you can tell it is made with care.

"The food here is special because it is made with love and it's homemade. It is consistent, it comes from recipes that have been passed down and perfected here.  So we are super proud to be able to give this food to the community," she said.

You can absolutely tell the food is made with care, and even the appetizers could stand alone as dishes that deliver.

When asked about what drives her passion for the restaurant and the food, McGuire said: "One of the things that brought me to The Swanson is the spirit of the place. It's everything I grew up with - all of the same home cookin' that after church on Sundays we'd go to grandma's and have. There's a sense of community here and family here as well," she said.

That community is what helps motivate her to work hard every day. The restaurant is somewhat of a classic staple in Perry, and it's seen lots of community support over the years.

"We value our community and its support. It takes a community to have something like this and have it last so long and be so successful, and we are very appreciative of our community and customers," McGuire said.

The restaurant opened in 2002 and has been serving the community for over 21 years. The long-standing success of The Swanson is a testament to how good their service (and food) is. They hope to keep it up for years to come.

If you want to visit The Swanson and try the food for yourself, you can pay them a visit at 933 Carroll Street in Perry.

They are open Monday -Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday & Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
