Last Bibb County Jail escaped inmate Joey Fournier captured near Stockbridge

He will be returned to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center later today.

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. — The last of four inmates has been captured after a manhunt that started when they escaped from the Bibb County Jail on Oct. 16.

52-year-old Joey Fournier was captured without incident on Saturday near Stockbridge, according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office as part of a joint operation by the (USMS) Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Henry County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Henry County Police, Clayton County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, and Clayton County Police.

Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said, “We are grateful that this last escapee has been captured. My heartfelt appreciation goes out to all of the hard-working law enforcement officers from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and from all of our partner agencies who worked tirelessly to bring these four fugitives back into custody.”

He will be returned to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center later today.

Fournier was charged with killing his ex-girlfriend Cynthia Berry.

It happened in February of 2022, in the Barrington Hall subdivision in Macon.

Neighbors of the subdivision say it was Berry's first home, and remember how excited she was to have her own place. However, they say she only lived there for a month.

At the time of the murder, her family told 13WMAZ, she moved into the place to get away from Fournier.

Berry filed a protective order against him in 2021, but in early 2022, Fournier allegedly strangled the victim to death, in her new home on Winchester Place.

On the night of the murder, the Bibb County dispatchers didn't send a deputy until 14 minutes after the 911 call was made. The Sheriff's office says it took them at least 27 minutes to respond.

Before BSO arrived at the scene, Berry's brother found her body inside the home.

Investigators say after the murder, Fournier got his brother to drive him to Rome, Georgia where he was arrested the day after Berry's death.

Last weekend, Johnifer Barnwell was captured at an Augusta home with a large amount of drugs inside. The 37-year-old was convicted last month by a federal jury in Macon of trafficking large amounts of fentanyl, meth, heroin, cocaine and cocaine base. He was also convicted on a gun charge. He faces a sentence of life in prison without parole.

25-year-old Marc Anderson was captured in an Atlanta apartment on Nov. 3.

29-year-old Chavis Stokes was captured at a home in Montezuma on Oct. 26.

Anyone with information on the possible location of these escapees should call the FBI’s tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324), the USMS at 1-877-WANTED2. Tips may also be submitted online at tips.fbi.gov or USMS Tips App.
