Spalding County math teacher arrested, accused of child molestation, jail records show

The eighth-grade teacher is no longer employed with the district.

SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — A Spalding County educator was arrested Friday on charges of child molestation and theft, according to jail records.

Tierra Harris, 28, was an eighth-grade math teacher at Rehoboth Road Middle School in Griffin, a spokesperson with the Griffin-Spalding County School System said. Harris is no longer employed with the district.

Jail records show that Harris is charged with child molestation, aggravated child molestation, theft by receiving stolen property, and sexual exploitation of children.

The school district explained she began her employment with the school in July and was hired through a teacher staffing service. A parent shared the letter the school district sent out. In it, the district said they have cut ties with this staffing service. The investigation into Harris started when a parent raised concerns about a text conversation.

The letter explains that Harris was questioned at the school, then later left the school for more questioning at the sheriff's office. However, she was arrested after school hours. The letter reads, "Inappropriate behavior around children, by anyone, especially those tasked with leading them, is not tolerated. If your students have any additional information that needs to be shared about this former teacher, please contact the Spalding County Sheriff's Office."

This is now a criminal case being handled by the sheriff's office.

Harris was denied bond, jail records revealed.
