7th Street Salvage to open in downtown Macon next week

7th Street Salvage will open at 230 7th Street in downtown Macon on June 1.

A store specializing in architectural items will open in downtown Macon on Friday, June 1.

The owners, Brent and Catherine Meyer, have been looking at going into the architectural salvage business for some time, according to Brent Meyer.

"On the small scale that we did it, we were actually in here looking for pieces from the previous owner," he said about their initial leap into architectural salvage. "The chance to purchase it kind of fell in our lap and so that's what we decided to do."

He says he and his wife bought the building in February 2017 and over the past 18 months, they've repaired the building and built inventory.

"Some of the inventory that's in this building was here when we bought it, but over the last 18 months we have brought in enough inventory that about half of it is what was here before and half of it is stuff that we've brought in," he added.

"It's been quite a labor of love and my wife and I -- it's something that we absolutely love doing."

The store will offer several architectural salvage and antique items including antique doors, furniture, wrought-iron fencing, kitchen items, bathroom items and much more.

Meyer mentioned that many of the items that will be up for grabs in the store are handmade.

"Architectural salvage pieces have lasted the test of time because usually they have a high level of durability due to being handmade by craftsman," he said.

7th Street Salvage will be an occasional shop, so it will be open two to three weekends each month.

Each weekend the store is open, there will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday hours.

The store is located at 230 7th Street in downtown Macon right beside Central City Park.
