Georgia DOT wants to widen a section of this north Macon road and they want to hear what you think

You can comment on their plans through Dec. 17, but the work won't start until at least 2028

MACON, Ga. —       The state wants to widen a section of busy Bass Road and wants to hear what you think.

They plan to widen about a mile and a half of roadway from two lanes to four.

That's the section between Providence Boulevard and New Forsyth Road.

The state says that section of road is congested from commercial development and has too many crashes.

They also want to get the road ready for more development to come – like a big shopping center proposed for New Forsyth Road.

Their plans include replacing the bridge over I-75 and building roundabouts where the highway off-ramps empty onto Bass.

The new Bass Road will have a 20-foot wide median and 12-foot shoulders.

The state will have to buy or take private property along the way to make room for the project.

According to the state Department of Transportation, construction would not start before 2028.

And the total cost would be nearly $68 million.

You can see the plans on the Georgia Department of Transportation website.

People can comment through Dec. 17.
