Macon-Bibb fire crews battle New Year's Day apartment fire

A fire broke out at an apartment complex on Northside Drive Wednesday morning.

MACON, Ga. — UPDATE: 9:15 a.m.

Captain Roderick Colvard with the Macon-Bibb Fire Department says four apartments are complete losses, and there's been water damage to all four units.

He says at least six to eight people are displaced from those apartments.

It took firefighters 30 minutes to put out the fire, and they're still investigating the cause, according to Colvard.

Reporter Abby Kousouris will have more from the woman who says the fire started in her apartment on 13WMAZ at 5 and 6 p.m.

Original Story: 8:49 p.m.

Macon-Bibb fire crews are out Wednesday morning investigating an apartment fire.

It happened at The Park at Northside Apartments on Northside Drive.

Dispatchers with the Macon-Bibb Fire Department say the call came in around 6:44 a.m.

The fire is out, and investigators are on scene trying to figure out what happened, according to dispatchers.

They say firefighters had to evacuate the building, but are not sure of how many people were displaced, if there are any injuries, and the extent of the damage.

A 13WMAZ crew is headed to the scene to learn more information. This story will be updated as those details come in.
