My Teacher is Tops: Mrs. Floyd at John R. Lewis Elementary

Mrs. Indiana Floyd teaches 2nd grade at John R. Lewis Elementary. She's only been teaching for two years.

MACON, Ga. — John R. Lewis Elementary School is named for a civil rights leader. One 2nd grade teacher is leading the way to learning and she's this week's My Teacher is Tops.

Mrs. Indiana Floyd teaches 2nd grade at John R. Lewis Elementary. She's only been teaching for two years.

Mrs. Floyd teaches her students all the subjects: math, social studies, ELA and science.

She says if she could do anything as a teacher, she would try to change the world and help her students learn as best they can.

Mrs. Floyd says she loves teaching at John R. Lewis because she feels so supported by her school community.

Student Ja'Kiyah Torres was a little shy trying to read her letter, so Junior Journalist Abigail Goss stepped in to help.

"She has a heart of gold. She loves us a lot and we love her a lot," the letter said.

Mrs. Floyd was showing the love during the grammar lesson she was teaching when 13WMAZ came into her classroom to surprise her.

"Because I feel like I can mold the kids. They can come in, I can nurture them and just mold them," Mrs. Floyd said.

Congratulations Mrs. Floyd!
